Chapter 4

No wonder Anne had seemed familiar—I had actually saved her before.

But there was no time to explain before Steven pressed the button.

Colorful lights illuminated the area and energetic music blasted around us.

As the drop tower started, I suddenly remembered how theme park design had been Steven''s childhood dream.

Just because I once mentioned liking carousels, he had promised to design the most beautiful carousel, just for me.

When had everything changed?

I couldn''t remember, because I''d always had a fear of heights.

The drop tower suddenly shot upward then plummeted down in free fall. I screamed so hard I nearly lost my voice.

On the ground, Anne was filming with her phone, laughing hysterically.

"Steven, look! She was much braver a year ago—now she can barely make a sound!"

The wind carried away their mockery but brought the jeers of other visitors.

"That''s what she gets for not appreciating such a good husband!"

"Look how much fun she''s having now—she was being so dramatic before."

"I think she passed out. Seriously? Is it that intense?"

But this time, the tower didn''t stop after its ascent.

Below, visitors erupted in terrified screams.

"The ride is malfunctioning! Someone''s been thrown off!"

The base of the tower spun out of control, and by the time I was flung out, seat and all, I had already lost consciousness.

When I opened my eyes again, I met Belinda''s swollen, red eyes.

"Myla, I''m so sorry. I failed you... I couldn''t protect you..."

I tried to speak but couldn''t. When I touched my stomach, I found it flat.

Looking at my phone, I saw I was in the news. The drop tower had malfunctioned due to design flaws, and I had been thrown off.

My baby was gone.

Steven was in the next room with Anne, leaving me only a voice message.

"Myla, Anne fainted from shock after seeing you injured. I need to take care of her first, then I''ll come see you."

At the same time, another hospital called to tell me my grandfather''s heart had stopped an hour earlier—Steven had secretly discontinued his medication.

After so many blows, my heart was numb, seemingly immune to any more pain.

Like a walking corpse, I didn''t cry or despair—I just quietly and quickly arranged my grandfather''s burial.

Severe fractures, miscarriage, grandfather''s death.

These three pieces of news reached Steven almost simultaneously.

But during this time, Steven not only failed to show up—he didn''t even call once.

Instead, I received a video from Anne.

In it, Steven was tenderly holding her, singing a lullaby to help her sleep.

She taunted me. "See? He only loves his baby—me. The one in your belly was just an accident. If you miss it so much, why don''t you go join it in hell?”

Without changing my expression, I blocked her and booked a flight.

It didn''t matter where I was going—I just wanted to escape this hellish marriage as quickly as possible.

After sending Steven divorce papers, I blocked his number too.

At the airport, Belinda hugged me with compassion.

"Myla, go live the life you deserve. I hope you find peace and happiness. Remember to let me know when you land safely."

I hugged her back gratefully and gently closed my eyes as the plane took off.

Steven, I''ve done what you wanted one last time.

But the price is that you and I will never cross paths again in this life or the next.
